"The idea for this scent first came to me several years ago, after reading about the immensely valuable cargoes of rare spices and raw materials carried to England by the merchant ships of the East India Company. Many of these costly goods were highly prized by Europe's aristocracy. But of course, they were also used by the great perfumers of the Middle East, India and China.
So my goal was to create a scent that was both ancient and modern - evoking a tradition we can trace back to the 6th century Arabia. It was years before I at last found the balance that had always eluded me. This scent uses some of the most precious ingredients of those rich cargoes, and there are some notes here that would have been familiar centuries ago.
And yet this is a truly contemporary scent - combining cedar, sandalwood and musk with a modern palette that includes a zing of Green Leaves and Water Lily. For me it has such originality and depth - a scent for today that also subtly alludes to its rich heritage
