Betrothal is a magical, resolutely modern scent with elegance and sophistication. Made with the finest materials, it opens with a burst of lively citrus notes, leading to a ravishing floral bouquet combining Rose de Mai and Jasmine from Grasse. It dries down to a rich and sensual base.

Princess May of Teck
A special perfume, Betrothal was originally produced to celebrate the wedding in July 1893 of Princess May of Teck and Prince George (the then Prince of Wales and Duke of York). They subsequently became King George V and Queen Mary, the grandparents of Queen Elizabeth II.
One of the most popular of the Grossmith scents, Betrothal was available for over fifty years. Classified as a 'floral bouquet', the materials brought together for the original formulation include Rose, Jasmine, Narcissus, Geranium, Hyacinth, Bergamot, Ylang, Musk and Orris. The original formula and samples have been used as the basis of a new, modern version of Betrothal. The floral contribution in the original formula (from Jasmine and Geranium) has been reduced, with the introduction of Neroli to add a lighter touch with more depth.
