Caron's artistic director, Felicie Wanpouille (who designed all the bottles) and the perfumer, Ernest Daltroff, took a holiday to Lake Como in Italy in 1927. Daltroff was enchanted by the spicy and pungent carnations found in the gardens of the nearby Villa Serbellonio in Bellagio. Felicie is said to have suggested that Caron name Daltroff's new carnation scent Bellogia.

The perfume extract still follows Daltroffs original formula with notes of rose, jasmine, violet, lily of the valley, and is of course centred around a rich, dense and peppery-spicy carnation heart. The Saxon Moss, Sandalwood and Vanilla base contrasts this with a rich and deep opulence, typical of its 1930's provenance.
